Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy is the systematic use of volatile plant oils known as essential oils for the treatment or prevention of disease. It is a form of complementary therapy designed to treat the whole person and not just the symptom or disease by assisting the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself.

How does it work?

When applied to the body, essential oils penetrate the skin via the hair follicles and sweat glands and are absorbed into the body fluids, where they not only help to kill bacteria and viruses but also stimulate the body's immune system, thereby strengthening resistance to further attack.Massage is one of the best ways to enjoy aromatherapy because you not only receive the therapeutic properties of the essential oils, but you also get the wonderful benefits of the massage itself. The therapeutic action of the essential oils when brought together with the revitalising effects of massage stimulate all of the organs in the body, plus the skin, muscles, nerves and glands. The increased circulation of the blood and lymph flow also assists with the clearing away of body toxins.

Because essential oils can influence our emotions, aromatherapy can help to lift depression, soothe irritable nerves and generally encourage a better state of mind.

What does it involve?

We will start with an initial consultation to ensure there are no contra-indications, and to determine what the clients specific needs are at that time. A bespoke blend of essential oils will then be prepared for the clients massage. The blend will be applied to the skin during a massage either to the back, neck head and shoulders, or full body.

What is it good for?

Each essential oil has many benefits, from uplifting, to calming, stimulating to detoxifying, to concentration enhancing to hormonal balancing.

Reflexology

Reflexology, which has its roots in ancient Egypt, according to cave paintings, works on the principle that every organ and system of the body has a corresponding point or zone in the feet. For example, the spot in the centre of the big toe corresponds to the pituitary gland, and on the ball of the foot underneath the big toe there is a point that corresponds to the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

How does it work?
Light pressure is used to massage each of the points in the toes, feet and ankles to release tension, remove energy blockages, disperse accumulations of calcium and uric acid, stimulate blood circulation and promote healing of both body and mind.

What does it involve?
We will begin by taking details of the client’s medical history and lifestyle. The client will be asked to remove only their footwear. The client, fully clothed apart from their feet, will lie on a massage couch whilst the we works on their feet and ankles.

Gentle pressure is applied to each pressure point and, where there are corresponding physical problems, the client may experience some slight discomfort and/or the therapist may feel some blockages in the area. For example, when the we touch the reflex point that corresponds to the gall bladder, if the client has a problem with that organ, then some discomfort may be felt in the foot.

Generally, most clients report that a reflexology treatment is wonderfully relaxing and soothing, and many people fall asleep. Each session will last  an hour and, in most cases, a series of sessions are necessary to resolve any problems. Some clients book a regularly weekly or monthly session as a preventative measure, to keep their systems balanced and in good working order.

What is it good for?
Reflexology can be used to treat a wide range of disorders including skin and respiratory conditions, migraine, PMS and menopausal problems, chronic fatigue, stress, depression and anxiety.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a system of long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration and shaking motions that apply pressure between muscles and bones, rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish Massage is relaxing and invigorating. The skin's natural functions will be stimulated improving the condition of the skin and the warmth created will help relax the body physically and mentally.

The main purpose of Swedish Massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Some other benefits of this massage style include shortening recovery time from muscular strain, increased circulation without increased heart load, stretching of ligaments and tendons, skin stimulation and soothing of the nervous system. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested as part of a regular program for stress management.

The client will receive the treatment unclothed, a plain oil would be used for the massage.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. It provides Indian families with relaxation and healing on a daily basis, as well as playing a part in rituals such as weddings and births, not to mention everyday events like a trip to the barber.

How does it work?
The aim of Indian head massage is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders.

What does it involve?
The client, fully clothed, sits in a massage chair for the treatment. We use a range of different movements including application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. In addition, we will also gently stimulate and stroke pressure points on the face.

What is it good for?
Indian head massage is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate.

What are the benefits?
Indian head massage helps increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, frees knots of muscular tension, relaxes connective tissue, and aids in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products. It is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and tension.

Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment. The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms.
